Decision whether to move forward set for next Tuesday’s meeting
At its Tuesday, June 11, meeting Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) board members approved a spending plan for a proposed facilities bond. The board might decide on whether to move forward and place the bond on the November ballot at its next meeting, Tuesday, June 24.
The Alameda County Waste Management Authority (ACWMA) is considering tacking $9.55 per year for the next 10 years onto property tax bills.
The authority states that it needs the money to support the countywide household hazardous waste program. This program provides collection and disposal services for household hazardous waste like paint, solvents and pesticides.
On Tuesday, the City Council heard the first reading of the ordinance that would create the Alameda Landing Municipal Services District. If the Council approves the ordinance as currently written and the current property owners approve it, Alameda Landing homeowners would pay thousands of dollars a year in supplemental property taxes
The ordinance would base residents’ tax rates in part on the size and type of homes they buy. Under the new ordinance commercial property owners would pay up to $1.54 per square foot.
