The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) men’s and women’s cross country teams put together strong showings at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) cross country finals last Saturday, Nov. 30, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) women’s cross country team won the 2015 Div. V North Coast Section (NCS) women’s cross country meet last Saturday, Nov. 21.
The Pilots won the competition with a score of 70 — each of the top five runners of a squad is given a point for the place that they finish in — and finished with a top-five individual average time of just over 19 minutes, almost a full minute faster than second-place team Lick Wilmerding of San Francisco. Lick finished with a score of 114 — the lowest score wins — and an average individual time of more than 20 minutes.
A senior from Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School (SJND) will have his photograph grace the halls of Congress. Each spring, the Alexandria, Va.-based non-profit Congressional Institute sponsors “Congressional Arts Competition, An Artistic Discovery,” a nationwide high-school visual-art competition. The institute works with Congress to recognize and encourage artistic talent in each congressional district.
The St. Joseph men’s golf team notched its tenth win of the year last week against Pinole Valley at the Chuck Corica Golf Course. The Pilots put on an overall team performance with three of its five players shooting in the mid-30s. James Lemos shot a low of 36 (one over par), Thomas Lee shot 38 (three over par), and Octavio Guzman shot 39 (four over par).
“These three players have done a great job in helping the team get to 10-1, along with the help of R.J. Pimentel and Joey DiGiuillio,” said Coach Vic Quintell.
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) men’s basketball team’s North Coast Section (NCS) Division V title bid came to a controversial, but successful close last Saturday, March 8 with a 49-48 victory over Branson of Ross.
While Alameda’s local schools are friendly rivals for sure, the class presidents representing the student leadership of Alameda, Encinal and St. Joseph high schools have teamed up to hold an affordable prom dress sale. The trio: Emily Rentschler of Encinal, Marisa Woo of Alameda High and Marissa Murphy of St. Joe’s invite students to find affordable dresses and possibly win a free prom ticket just for showing up.
The sale will be held this Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Alameda High New Gym at 2200 Central Ave.
