Alamedans woke up on Wednesday, Nov. 9, to learn that Donald Trump had defeated Hillary Clinton; the Trumps, not the Clintons will be moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in January.

Locals also learned that they had a brand-new City Councilwoman and an equally fresh School Board Trustee. The Alameda Unified School District quickly tweeted its thanks on Wednesday to voters for passing a measure that extended the period that the district could depend on the current parcel tax.

A memorial for Solana Henneberry will be held at 2 p.m., this Sunday, April 2, at the Elks Lodge located at 2255 Santa Clara Ave. She died on Feb. 14, after battling a serious illness for more than a year.

The second round of pre-election campaign disclosure filings was recently released and it shows several Alameda candidates have obtained significantly more monetary contributions than other candidates during the election cycle.

The first round of pre-election filings span from July 1 to Sept. 24, while the second round was from Sept. 25 to Oct. 22. The deadline for the second round filings to be turned into the Alameda city clerk’s office was last Thursday, Oct. 27.

The Alameda Education Association (AEA) reiterates its support for the reelection of Mayor Marie Gilmore. She has been a strong advocate for public education and teachers in Alameda.

The association, which represents 540 teachers, counselors and nurses in the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD), is extremely disappointed by the decision of school board trustee Trish Herrera Spencer to campaign for mayor instead of focusing on the responsibilities of her current elected position.

Dear Community Members:

This summer is a season of change in Alameda Unified School District. As many of you have heard, our superintendent, Kirsten Vital, has resigned her position as of August 1, 2014 to become the new superintendent of Capistrano Unified School District.
