Lifelong Alameda resident Randy Denton retired from Waste Management after working for 38 years. Denton started his career in 1977 with Alameda Disposal as a trash collector, in the days when the men would pack a barrel on their shoulders as they entered backyards in the city to pick up residents’ garbage.
Denton’s father, Emil Radloff, inspired him. Radloff was a truck driver and very involved in the Teamsters Union. Denton remembers when young children would look forward to him pulling up in his truck and neighbors would greet him with holiday treats.
