Philippine Independence Day

Alamedans will celebrate Philippine Independence Day on the steps of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Ave., this Saturday, June 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with cultural performances, Filipino food, information tables and speeches.

This celebration recalls June 12, 1898, when Filipino revolutionaries declared independence from Spain after 300 years of colonial rule with the Philippine Declaration of Independence.

In honor of Araw ng Kalayaan, Philippine Independence Day, Rhythmix Island Arts presents an array of artists celebrating the cultural traditions of the Philippine islands on the island of Alameda.

Featuring the American Center of Philippine Arts, Parangal Dance Company, Kulintronica and Kristian Kabuay, the event takes place this Saturday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2513 Blanding Ave. Tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and $15 for students/seniors.
