The 67th edition of the Island Bowl between the Alameda High School (AHS) and Encinal High School (EHS) football teams will take place Friday, Sept. 23 at Thompson Field.
Alameda High School (AHS) basketball swept the Island Bowl on Saturday, June 5. The men’s team defeated the Encinal High School (EHS), 49-34, while the Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Jets, 62-48. Both games were played on the Jets’ home court.
Sixth months ago the Alameda Unified School District explored the possibility of combining the Island’s two public high schools. Last Friday’s rivalry between Alameda and Encinal high schools reminded the community that the Island Bowl is a tradition worth keeping.
The Alameda High School Hornets will visit Encinal High School at Willie Stargell Field to face off against their cross-town rival Jets this Friday, Sept. 7, in the annual Island Bowl.

The stage has been set for tomorrow’s Island Bowl showdown between Encinal and Alameda high schools. The 63rd rendition of the historic Alameda football game will pit the 4-4 Alameda Hornets against the 8-0 Encinal Jets at Thompson Field.
The 62nd annual Island Bowl between crosstown rival high school football teams lacked the dramatics of some of the historic game’s predecessors. The Encinal High School (EHS) Jets controlled the contest throughout, winning 41-0 last Friday at Stargell Field.
