Freeway construction on I-880 just north of the Park Street Bridge will begin affecting traffic in July, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced last week.  Caltrans said that it awarded contacts for the project in April. The contractors will replace two existing freeway overcrossings at 23rd Avenue along with the overcrossing at 29th Avenue. 

 

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that it will close the Posey and Webster Tubes for late-night biennial tunnel inspections as follows.

Posey Tube closures:

  • Monday, Aug. 20, from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning
  • Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning 
  • Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 9:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning

Webster Tube closures:

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) announced recently that it will close the Posey and Webster tubes at night for cleaning starting Monday, Jan. 22.

The Posey Tube, exiting Alameda, will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning on three nights: Monday, Jan. 22, Tuesday, Jan. 23, and Wednesday, Jan. 24.

The Webster Tube, entering Alameda, will be closed from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning on three nights: Monday, Jan. 29, Tuesday, Jan. 30, and Wednesday, Jan. 31.

 

Caltrans is moving forward with the Oakland-Alameda Access Project. Caltrans says that it aims to improve connections between Interstate 880, Interstate 980 and the Webster and Posey tubes that connect the cities of Alameda and Oakland. Improvements would speed the flow of traffic out of the Posey Tube into Oakland. Once out of the tube, traffic would turn right onto Fifth Street and follow a “horseshoe” loop under I-880 at Jackson Street, easing access to northbound I-880. 

 

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that it will close the Posey and Webster tubes for “life and fire” safety inspections  Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 20, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

The Webster Tube, entering Alameda, will be closed Monday, July 10, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning, and Tuesday, July 11, from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following morning.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced recently that it will close the Webster and Posey tubes in mid and late January for cleaning. Cleaning for the Posey Tube was completed earlier this week. 

The Webster Tube, entering Alameda, will be closed as follows:
• Monday, Jan. 23, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning
• Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning
• Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following morning.

 

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced recently that it will close the Posey Tube for maintenance and servicing from Alameda into Oakland on Thursdays through August of this year, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

The pedestrian walkway will also be closed seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Baystar Shuttle Service is available for pedestrians traversing the tube by calling 401-4657. Detours will be in place.

Caltrans announced that it will close the Posey Tube for inspection and maintenance from 10 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, to 5 a.m., the following morning. The tube, built in 1928, carries traffic from 
Alameda into Oakland.

Contractors currently working on a second project to rehabilitate the tube will continue with their work as scheduled. This includes repair, not maintenance work, and involves replacing guardrails and sidewalks, repairing and installing lighting and closed-circuit televisions, as well as rehabilitating the tube’s superstructure.
