Alameda resident Regina Famiano along with hundreds of others took part in the 2014 “Out of the Darkness” overnight walk in Seattle last Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15.

The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP) hosts the event where participants took part in a 17.7-mile walk around Seattle that last from sunset Saturday night to sunrise Sunday morning. The walk is designed to raise awareness for the goal of reducing the annual rate of suicide by 20 percent by year 2025 — saving 7,600 lives each year, according to the event’s website.
