Men’s Basketball
• St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) defeated Encinal High, 53-49 (Dec. 2); lost to Mt. Eden High of Hayward, 43-35 (Dec. 3).
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) men’s basketball team opened the 2022-2023 season with a 71-56 victory over Mt. Diablo High School of Concord in their home gym.
About 40 friends, family members, former players and their parents gathered at Littlejohn Park Saturday, Sept. 24, to send youth basketball coach Sherman Lee into retirement.
The Alameda High School (EHS) men’s basketball team defeated Encinal High School (EHS), 57-54, on Saturday Feb. 5. The Hornets followed that up with a 60-52 victory over St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) on Feb. 7
Encinal High School (EHS) men’s basketball team lost to Hayward High School,42-38, on Jan. 21 at home. The Farmers (7-5) snapped the Jets’ (6-4) three-game winning streak.
The Alameda High School (AHS) men’s basketball team scored an impressive 71-55 victory over San Leandro High School (SLHS) on Jan. 6.
Encinal High School men’s basketball team went 1-1 last week. The Jets lost, 41-39, to St. Mary’s High of Albany on Dec. 15 before bouncing back to defeat Piedmont High School, 64-60, on Dec. 17. Both games were on the road. The Jets are now 4-3 on the season.
The high-school basketball season is well underway, and all six Alameda high-school teams are gearing up for a strong 2019-2020 season.

Encinal High School (EHS) senior Marion “Kobe” Allen will compete in the state long-jump competition after a qualifying performance at the North Coast Section (NCS) Track-and-Field Meet of Champions Saturday, May 18.
