Two Island City Holiday Season Traditions Continue this Saturday

This weekend marks the official beginning of the holiday season here in the Island City with the official Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting set for 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 3. The event coincides with the debut of “Christmas Tree Lane” that same evening.

According to the Alameda Police Department, just before 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, an 85-year-old man came into the Crown Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 508 Westline Drive, and shot a relative, an 85-year-old woman.

Alamedan to Sit on Parole Board

Gov. Jerry Brown has appointed Alameda resident Troy Taira, to a three-year term as a commissioner on the state Board of Parole Hearings. If approved by the state senate, he would sit as one of 12 full-time commissioners and earn $142,095, a year.
