In 1981, Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office decided it was time to celebrate and thank police dispatchers. From Anderson’s idea grew National Public Safety Telecommunicators’ Week, a celebration that runs from April 9 to 15 this year.

The Friends of the Alameda Free Library is sponsoring “Made in Alameda: A Local Showcase” at the Main Library, 1550 Oak St. from noon to 5 p.m., this Saturday, March 18. The event will showcase more than 20 authors, artists, artisans and inventors.
The Alameda High baseball team hosted the Jyoto High baseball team from Fukuoka, Japan, for an exhibition match at the College of Alameda Friday, March 3.
An amendment to the City of Alameda’s Public Art Ordinance will be considered as part of the Planning Board’s Monday, March 13, meeting agenda. The changes will improve the regulations governing the ordinance.
Cross Alameda Trail Extension in the works at Sweeney Park
Members of the Alameda Recreation and Parks Commission have requested that the California Transportation Commission (CTC) grant a nine-month extension for the much-anticipated Cross Alameda Trail.
