Spike of Burglaries Felt

Alameda Police Department (APD) detectives are investigating five commercial burglaries that APD believes may have been committed by the same person, an APD spokesman said.

The break-ins took place Sunday, Jan. 26 at La Penca Azul, 1440 Park St.; Papa Murphy’s and the Island Cafe, which share a location at 1929 Broadway; and Alameda Entertainment Associates, 2301 Central Ave. Similar burglaries were reported Jan. 22 at the Sidestreet Pho restaurant, 2304 Encinal Ave., and the Parrot AT&T store at 2601 Blanding Ave.

At last Monday’s meeting members of the Planning Board told the city that it needs to make design changes to the two-story, 3,640-square-foot emergency operations center it hopes to build at 1809 Grand St. The city was hoping to begin construction of the center this spring.
