The Alameda Fire Deparment received some help from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Elvis Presley, last Friday, during the annual Halloween Pumpkin Patch hosted by the department. Kids of all ages get to take a home a free pumpkin each year at the event which took place for the 19th year.

Local Drowns after Driving into Estuary

Paul Douglas Scherer of Alameda died Sunday when the minivan he was driving plunged into the Oakland Estuary. Witnesses called 911 about 8:30 a.m. to report that they saw a white minivan go into the estuary off Derby Avenue in Oakland, across from the Bridgeside Shopping Center.

Plane Lands at Old Naval Air Station

A pilot landed his American Champion Scout single-engine aircraft on Runway 13-31 of the long-closed Alameda Naval Air Station on Tuesday morning. The plane was in the business of hauling a banner like the ones typically seen at sporting events.
