Alameda Elks Lodge No. 1015 officers and members recently delivered 50 boxes of goods to the veterans at Yountville Veterans Home and Hospital. The delivery took place on Aug. 19, and included toiletries, socks, clothing, blankets and cards. The Alameda Elks also cooked a hamburger lunch with all the trimmings for the veterans. In addition the donors provided plenty of good conversation before, during and after the meal. The charitable organization offers the following statement on its website, “the mission of the Elks National Foundation is to help Elks build stronger communities. We fulfill this pledge by investing in communities where Elks live and work. We provide tomorrow’s leaders, our youth, with lifelong skills; honor the Elks’ pledge to never forget our veterans; help the state Elks associations accomplish their charitable objectives and fund projects that improve the quality of life in local Elks communities.” The national order of the Elks founded in 1868, celebrates its 150th anniversary next year.
