Born in Boston and a resident of Alameda for 44 years, Edward Lee passed away on Feb. 15, 2014, at age 83 of dementia.

Survived by his wife, Mary Creek Lee and his daughter, Anne Marie Lee, both of whom he loved dearly. Survived also by his sisters, Ginny Lee of Mill Valley, Marie Lee of Melrose, Mass., and brother, Col. Jack Lee (Ret.) of Shreveport, La., as well as by nieces and nephews.

Helen Argyropoulos, 83, passed away on Feb. 7. She was born in Reedly, Calif., to the late Athan and Sofia Krouscas. Upon graduating from Fremont High School, in Oakland, she began working in the accounting department of Montgomery Wards, until 1957.

It was during that time, in 1952, that Helen married the late Kostos Argyropoulos. In 1966, she began working as an instructional assistant for the Oakland Public Schools, until her retirement in 1996. Helen also volunteered countless hours on the PTA board, Vacation Bible School, for the traffic patrol and as a Sunday school teacher, to name just a few.

In her spare time, Helen enjoyed stitching, flower arranging, gardening and cooking. Most of all, she loved spending time with her mutually adoring family and friends. She will be missed more than words can express.

Helen is survived by her three children: Jon and Lisa Argyropoulos of Boulder City, Nev., Doreen Argyropoulos of Castro Valley, Diane and Curtis Elia of San Carlos; and eight grandchildren: Alexander Ricker (Natalia), Aaron Argyropoulos (Elyse), Jacquelyn ‘Babes’ Ricker, Sophia Argyropoulos, Elaina Ricker, Nathaniel Elia, Nicole Elia and Rachel Elia.

Resident of Alameda

Born in Flandreau, South Dakota, on Oct. 12, 1933, to the late Melvin and Mildred Bonrud, Donna passed away peacefully in Alameda, on Feb. 5, 2014. In the early 1950s she left her small town for the San Francisco Bay Area.

It was here that she met her late husband, Robert Carter, a career serviceman with the U.S. Navy, and raised their two sons Michael and Steven. She fell in love with Alameda and spent the majority of her life with friends and family on this island.

She is survived by her two sons Michael and Steven Carter; her daughters-in-law Esther and Sharon Carter; her grandchildren Marianne, Sharie, Frank and Joshua Carter; and her two brothers Lanny and Robert Bonrud. Donna was a loving mother, a beloved grandmother and sweet sister. Family meant everything to her and she did anything she could to keep everyone happy and connected.
