Joanne Cipresso Vigna

Resident of Alameda

Born in Alameda to the late Battista and Angelina Cipresso, our dear Joanne passed away June 7, 2014, at the age of 83 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joanne was the loving wife of the late Luciano Vigna of Alameda for 61 years. Dear sister of Catherine DiGiulio of Brentwood, the late Marie Sandroni of Alameda and Pete Cipresso of San Leandro. Sister-in-law to Al and Louise Vigna of Alameda, Piera and Giorgio Bigliati of Asti, Italy, the late Louie DiGiulio of Brentwood and the late Bruno Sandroni of Alameda.  

She is survived by her sister Catherine DiGiulio, brother Pete Cipresso, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Al and Louise Vigna and Piera and Giorgio Bigliati, and many nieces and nephews in California, Florida and Italy.

She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School and graduated from Alameda High School in 1950.

In her earlier years, she worked for a dental service in Oakland and women’s clothing stores in Oakland and Alameda. Later, she enjoyed operating a day care for children of family and friends in her home.  She was a talented cook; she enjoyed cooking for many family events. She loved to travel. She was also very proud of her doll collection.

The family would like to thank Premier Homecare Angels of Alameda and Gentiva Hospice for providing excellent care during her final days. 

Family and friends may visit after  9:30 a.m., today, Thursday, June 12, and are invited to attend the funeral mass also today, Thursday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 3108 Van Buren St. She will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward following the mass. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
