Terrence McSweeney Devlin

Nov. 30, 1920 – March 8, 2014
Resident of Alameda

Terry was born in San Francisco, on Nov. 30, 1920, grew up in Oakland, and settled with his family in Alameda for the past 47 years. At 93 years of age, Dad passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

As a child he attended Sacred Heart Grammar School, then graduated from St. Mary’s High School, class of 1938. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II, and in 1978 he retired as a manager for the U.S. Postal Service where he was employed for 36 years. He was a member of the St. Joseph parish in Alameda serving as an usher at the 5 o’clock mass for many years. Terry was a great dad — young at heart, quick to smile, a true joy to be around.

His parents Bernard and Catherine, his wife Theresa, all natives of Ireland, and his sister, Catherine, preceded him. Terry leaves behind his six children: Terence (Darcy), Edward, Eileen (Rick), Robert (Kiki), Kathleen, and Patricia.

He also leaves behind his three grandsons: Ryan, Michael, and Matthew, his brother and sisters-in-law Robert Foley, Barbara Foley, and Lorraine Foley along with great grandchildren and loving nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass, today, Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Basilica, 1109 Chestnut St. in Alameda. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
