Albertina Ratto

Tina was a devoted wife to her husband Bernie of 62 years. She is survived by her sister Katherine Marques, her three loving sons Doug, Don and Steve, her daughters-in-law Susy, Marie, and Kathy, her grandchildren, Katie, Christi, Rebecca, Anthony, Dominic, and Joe, and her great-grandson Finnegan. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernie, her mother Albertina, her father Jose, her brothers Joe, John, and Manuel, and her sisters Alice and Mary.
Born in Gustine, Calif., Tina was a true farmer’s daughter, growing up on her family’s dairy farm. She spent her later childhood years in Pacific Grove, Calif., playing field hockey and basketball, and developing a love for the ocean and the California coast.
After graduating from Pacific Grove High School, she worked in downtown Oakland as a bookkeeper for Brent’s jewelers, where she was working when she met the love of her life, Bernie. Bernie and Tina later married in Alameda, where they raised their bustling family of three boys and where Tina proudly lived as a resident for 72 years.
At their home, Tina loved working in her garden, reading her favorite magazines, and eating anything chocolate. A dedicated church-goer, Tina was an original and life-long parishioner at St. Phillip Neri Parish, from which all three boys graduated and wherein her son Steve and granddaughter Katie were married. Tina cherished the time she spent with her friends, family and neighbors.
She was always finding ways to show her love, whether through baking homemade cakes, pies and cookies, by sending the perfect card, or through giving the neighborhood children candy treats at every holiday. She will be dearly missed by many who were able to call her a friend, but will be missed most by her growing family, in which she proudly held the position of matriarch.
The funeral mass was held on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at St. Philip Neri.  Tina was laid to rest with her husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
