Born in Oakland to the late Francis and Kathleen Reilly, Bob died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Kathleen Reilly, his brother, Jack Reilly, and sister-in-law, Sally Reilly. Bob was the loving husband of Lois Reilly, devoted father of Mary, Chris, Cathy and Joan, stepfather of Mark, Vince, Robert and John and loving grandfather of Jonathan, Anna, Allison, Hayden, Bridget and Michael. He was adored by his cat Rolf and dog Peggy.
Bob attended SF City College (AA), SFSU (BA), USF (life teaching credential) and Cal State East Bay, where he received his master’s degree in education administration. He taught at Encinal High School from 1956 to 1964, then spent a year in the district office before founding Island High School and working there as Principal for seven years. He then became principal of the Alameda Adult School until his retirement in 1992. He also taught courses for teachers throughout his career, part-time, at Cal State University (East Bay) and UC Berkeley.
Bob was active in adult education development throughout California. He enjoyed reading and listening to classical music while smoking cigars.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 1022 Holly St., in Alameda, immediately followed by a reception.
