Betty Jean Williams

Betty Jean Williams passed away in Hayward Oct. 29, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Williams, in 2001.

Betty was born in Hollister, Mo., June 11, 1924, but spent most of her life in the Bay Area.

She graduated in 1945 from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Oakland as a registered nurse. She spent a short time as a private-duty nurse in the Los Angeles area but eventually returned to the Bay Area where she worked as a surgical nurse at Alameda Hospital for many years.

In later years she was quite involved with her husband, Fred, in publishing a newsletter entitled Type and Press, which was about the lost art of printing. Betty was the official proofreader. She was an accomplished seamstress. She made most of her clothes and some of Fred’s. Betty loved to travel and spend time with her many friends.

She is survived by cousins in the Sacramento area and relatives who reside in Missouri.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
