Martha M. Lopolito

Martha Lopolito passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27. She was born on April 18, 1930, in Miami, Ariz., to Arthur and Maye Smith. She was a teen when her family moved to Oakland, where she graduated from Oakland Technical High School, Class of 1948. She met Norman Lopolito in 1949 on a blind date, and they were married in 1950. They were married for 64 years, until the time of his death.

Martha worked for Bank of America for more than 20 years in both Alameda and Oakland. She was also a member of the WETS swimming group for many years. For a number of years in the 1960s, she bowled on the Monday Morning Housewives League. She loved being in her kitchen making homemade soups and baking pies and cakes for Norman’s sweet tooth. She was also a beautiful seamstress. She was a lover of animals, and supported several animal charities.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, mother and father as well as her younger brother, Ted. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl, sisters-in-law Mary Ann Houck (Gene-deceased) and Vida Reiss (Roland-deceased), and many nieces and nephews.
