Gwendolyn Katz, 15, passed unexpectedly on Nov. 24 at her mother’s home in Alameda.
Gwen will always be remembered for her passions and kindness towards others. She was a lover of Japan and Japanese culture. Gwen was creative and artistic, always sketching, drawing or making something creative. Her favorite thing to listen to was Kanye West, especially in her dad’s Buick. She loved the art of makeup and enjoyed sharing this with others.
Gwen attended Alameda High School her freshman year and Encinal High School this year. She was on the cheerleading teams at both schools. Her fellow classmates talk about how kind and friendly she was to everyone.
She will always be remembered by her family: Damien, her father; Laura, her mother; and Rosie and Zack, her sister and brother.
Gwen took her own life and the family would like to ask that anyone who is struggling with the loss of Gwen, or sadness and depression in general, to please ask for help from a therapist, a counselor, a clergy member, teachers, principals, parents, grandparents or any other source of support available.
A memorial service will be held at Alameda Veterans Memorial Building, 2203 Central Ave., this Sunday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the help start the charity that her mother Laura will start in Gwen’s honor. Please PayPal to GwendolynsLight@gmail.com.
