At 12:37 p.m. on Christmas Eve, 18 Alameda firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a home on the 1400 block of Fifth Street. When crewmembers arrived, they found a two-story home on fire. Some crewmembers searched for the building’s occupants, while others went to work extinguishing the blaze.

Firefighters learned that the occupant was able to get out of the house before they arrived. Crewmembers had the fire out in 30 minutes.

Damage was confined to the first floor, the fire was able to extend up a wall and into the attic. The home suffered heat and water damage throughout. The fire displaced the home’s adult occupant who received assistance from the Red Cross.
