Women Golfers Complete Second Round of Club Championships

Tai Chewpanich maintained her lead atop the 83rd annual Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) Club Championship after the second round, but Jenny Bae is closing in.

Bae shot the lowest gross score of the round — the lowest accumulative gross score will determine club championship over the three-round tournament — with an overall 80 after shooting an overall 87 last week. Chewpanich posted an overall 83 in round two after an overall 82 last week.

Bae now trails Chewpanich by just two strokes heading into the final round next week. Stephanie Bellato is in third place in the overall tournament after posting a gross 174 after two rounds.

Sarah Valentine sustained her lead atop the net score competition with a net 73 in the second flight — handicap of 23 to 25. She has a net 139 after the second round. Juanita Solano has a net 143 after two rounds in the second flight, while Barbara Mickle scored a net 144 after two rounds. Jean Cho shot a net 68 in the second round to take over the lead of the third flight — handicap of 26 to 28.

Cho was tied for second place in the flight after round one, but shot eight strokes better than round-one leader Carole Evans, who shot a net 76 in round two and has an accumulative net 144 after two rounds. Susan Yoon is third in the flight with a net 146.

Bae also shot the lowest gross score of the event after shooting a net 67. This brought her to a tie atop the first flight — handicap of nine to 20 — with Dot Moody. The two golfers each have a combined net 141. Chewpanich is third in the flight with a net 147.

Angie Vaccarezza lengthened her lead atop the fourth flight — handicap of 30 to 40 — from five strokes to eight. Vaccarezza shot a net 71 (she also shot a net 71 in the first round) to push her score to net 142. Bonnie Kim and Susan Logan have a net 150 after two rounds to give them a tie for second place.
