Women’s Water Polo Teams Undefeated
The Alameda and Encinal high school women’s water polo teams are the two remaining unbeaten teams in the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) league play.
The Hornets are 3-0 in the 12-team WACC. They beat Castro Valley High, 6-2, on Sept. 24. They took down Berkeley High, 11-9, on Sept. 26. Lastly, the beat Lick-Wilmerding High School of San Francisco, 10-2, on Oct. 8. Alameda High School (AHS) is 5-3 overall and have won five straight matches after losing the first three games of the season. They will take on Irvington High of Fremont in a non-conference match on Oct. 21.
The Jets are 5-0 in the WACC. They beat San Leandro High, 13-4, on Sept. 17. They defeated Lick-Wilmerding, 8-2, on Sept. 23. They defeated Piedmont, 13-10, on Sept. 26. Their next conference game was a 12-4 victory over Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland on Oct. 1. Lastly, they beat Berkeley High, 15-10, on Oct. 8. The Jets are 11-10 overall on the season. Encinal High School (EHS) will take on rival AHS in the season finale on Oct. 22.
Men’s Water Polo
The AHS men’s water polo team is in second place in the WACC with a 4-1 league record. They are one game behind Berkeley High who sits atop the league at 5-0. The Hornets defeated league rivals Piedmont High, 8-7, on Sept. 17; Castro Valley High, 11-6, on Sept. 24; and San Leandro High 13-7 on Oct. 1. Their lone league defeat came at the hands of Berkeley High, 17-4, on Sept. 26. The Hornets are 12-7 overall on the season.
The EHS men’s water polo team is 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the WACC. After winning their first two league games against San Leandro High (18-8 on Sept. 17) and Lick-Wilmerding (15-14 on Sept. 23), the Hornets have dropped three straight WACC contests. They lost to Piedmont High, 14-5, on Sept. 26; were taken down by Bishop O’Dowd, 17-15, on Oct. 1; and lost to Berkeley High, 28-13, on Oct. 8.
