Women’s Golf Club Sends in Results from May Charm Event


Peggy Miller won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club’s May Charm event on May 5 at the Earl Fry Course with a net 68.

Miller competed in the first flight among golfers with a handicap of 11 to 23. She was one stroke better than Bobbie Hoepner and Dee Dee Appleton who both shot a net 69 from the third flight — handicap of 29 to 33.

Miller was three strokes ahead of the next-closest competitor in the in the first flight. Dot Moody posted a net 71 in the first flight. Stephanie Bellato shot a net 73 in the first flight for third place. She also shot the lowest gross score of the event with an overall 84. Jill Keane, Maggie Lindquist and Tai Chewpanich finished in a three-way tie after boasting net 74s.

Sarah Valentine shot a net 71 to win the second flight — handicap of 25 to 28. Sonia Kwak posted a net 72 for second place in the flight. Alice Wong, Debbie Adams and Jean Cho each shot a net 73 in the flight to tie for third place.

Veronica Chang posted a net 73 for third place in the third flight behind Hoepner and Appleton. Shirley Lee shot a net 76 for fourth place, while Louise Eilhardt posted a net 78 to round out the top five in the flight. 
Ruby Soo shot a net 71 to win the fourth flight — handicap of 35 to 40. Mary Gong’s net 75 was good for second place, while Connie Wendling and Shirl Ames tied for third place with net 78s. Donna Cooper shot a net 80 in the flight.

Bellato (25’ 2”) won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the 11th hole. Hoepner (9’ 8”) won the competition on the 15th hole by just three inches over Jane Sullwold.
