Volleyball Season Opens

The St. Joseph Notre Dame High School (SJND) women’s volleyball team’s attempt to start the season on the right foot did not go well after two losses at the Albany High tournament on Aug. 25.

The Pilots started the tournament with a match against Monte Vista of Danville. The Mustangs got the upper hand, first winning the first set convincingly 25-8. However, the Pilots did not go out without a fight as they won the second set 29-27. The third tiebreaking flight went back and forth, but in the end, the mustangs prevailed 15-12. The preliminary matches of the tournament were played in a best-of-three set format.

The Pilots’ second match of the tournament was similar to the first. The Pilots lost to San Leandro High in the second match 2-1. The Pirates won the first set 27-25. The Pilots bounced back to win the second set 25-19. However, the third and final set went to the Pirates to the tune of 15-9.

The Pilots will look to rebound from the two losses today with a match up against St. Patrick-St. Vincent at their home gym.
