Victory Elusive in High School Soccer Teams’ Postseasons
The soccer season for Alameda high school teams ended last month with teams’ bids at a North Coast Section (NCS) titles unsuccessful.
Alameda High School’s (AHS) women’s team lost to Livermore High, 5-0, in the first round of the NCS women’s Div. II playoffs on Feb. 13. The Hornets were heavy underdogs as the 16th seed, while the Cowboys were the first seed in the tournament. AHS finished the season 9-8-3 overall.
The AHS men’s team also lost in the opening round of the NCS Div. II tournament. The Hornets fell to Concord High, 2-1, on Feb. 13. The Hornets were the 10th seed in the 16-team tournament. The Hornets’ men’s team ended their season with a 10-7-2 overall record
The Encinal High women’s soccer team lost in the first round of the NCS women’s Div. III tournament, 3-0, to Acalanes High of Lafayette. The Jets were the 11th seed in the 13-team tournament. The Jets finished the season with a 6-11-2 overall record.
The Encinal High men’s soccer team did not qualify for the postseason.
St. Joseph Notre Dame
St. Joseph Notre Dame’s (SJND) women’s team lost to Urban High of San Francisco, 3-0, in the first round of the women’s NCS Div. IV playoffs on Feb. 13.
The Pilots were the 11th seed in the 16-team playoff. Urban was the sixth seed. The Pilots finished the season 9-5-3.
The SJND men’s soccer team played its season in the fall.
