An Alameda Veterans Day

Veterans Day Festivities

Honoring All Who Served

Members of Alameda’s Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 8 and Chapter 400 of the Vietnam Veterans have joined with the Legionnaires of America Legion Posts 9 and 647 to present a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 2203 Central Ave.

They invite the community to honor and remember both past and present-day veterans. The celebration has its roots in Armistice Day and recalls the day that World War I came to an end on Nov, 11, 1918.  Congress voted to change the name to Veterans Day in June 1954.Four years later President Dwight Eisenhower signed the legislation that made the name change official.

Program Chairman Bronson “Chief” Parry will welcome those in attendance and Arnold Dos Santos will act as Master of Ceremonies. Mayor Trish Spencer will deliver the Veterans Day address.
