Sonia Kwak won the last Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) net tournament last month by shooting a net 68.
Kwak took down 27 other competitors in the Nov. 12 tournament played on the Earl Fry Course. She competed in the third flight — handicap of 32 to 40. Kwak put a little bit of distance between her and the other golfers in her flight. Jean Cho and Lynette Mladinich tied for second place with matching net 71s. Janet Kirk finished in fourth place in the flight with a net 74, while Wilda Moore posted a net 76 for fifth place.
The first and second flights were a little more competitive. Jenny Bae won the first flight — handicap of 15 to 22 — by shooting a net 69. Bae also shot the lowest gross score of the tournament with an overall 84. Maggie Lindquist finished just behind her with a net 70 for second place. Peggy Miller posted a net 71 for third place in the flight, while Debbie Adams scored a net 75 for fifth place.
Jane Sullwold scored a net 69 to win the second flight — handicap of 25 to 31. She, too, won the flight by one stroke. Sarah Valentine was hot on her heels, but finished one stroke behind Sullwold with a net 70. Bonnie Kim and Dee Dee Appleton both shot a net 77 to tie for third place in the flight. Pat O’ Hara shot a net 78 for fifth place.
Madeline Sally won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fourth hole. She shot her ball 55’ 3” from the pin. Yvonne Lee was second, her ball landed 57’ 4” from the hole.
Sullwold won the competition on the 15th hole. She shot her ball 8’ 2” from the hole. Peggy Miller ball stopped 10’ 4” from the pin for second place. Dot Moody’s ball stopped 11’ 2” from the hole for third place.
