Trinity Appoints Music Director
Trinity Lutheran Church has appointed musician Julie Haydon as its director of music ministry. Haydon has served as the church’s choir director since 2010. She directed music from diverse traditions. She has also directed choral-orchestral works like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria.
“Julie is stepping into a position with an expanded music ministry,” said Trinity’s Interim Pastor Sharon Starkfleet. “We are excited and grateful to have the gift of Julie Haydon’s leadership.”
In her new post, Haydon will be responsible for Trinity’s adult choir, the hand-bell choir and the youth group choir. She earned a bachelor of music in flute performance at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and a master’s degree in music education at Oakland’s Holy Names University, where she specialized in Kodály music education.
Haydon also studied conducting in New York with Craig Jessop, the former director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She also worked with Oakland’s Cantare Con Vivo, an inter-generational nonprofit that focuses on choral music.
“I am continually inspired to see that music has the power to uplift the world and bring together people of diverse experiences,” said Haydon.
