Treat Dad to Something Special in Downtown Alameda

Looking for unique and interesting gifts for Dad? Check out the auto accessories, jewelry, craft beverages and so much more in Downtown Alameda. The Island’s downtown district is also a great place for families to spend a memorable day with Dad.

Sharing breakfast over a nice conversation on Father’s Day is a longtime family tradition and Downtown Alameda has a number of classic diners. If Dad is more of a burger kind of guy, there are a number of local eateries that offer their twist on the classic hamburger for lunch or dinner.

Dad will have a blast spending an afternoon or evening in Downtown Alameda. There are plenty of activities to choose from. Treat Dad to the latest blockbuster movie, challenge him to a classic video arcade game (the kind he played as a kid) or spend time together at a museum or art gallery.

Maybe Dad has been talking about getting into shape. Give him a hand by signing him up for a martial-arts class or a traditional fitness class. Gift certificates are conveniently available at each of the downtown fitness clubs.

While looking for gifts and making the rounds to favorite places in Downtown Alameda, consider shopping at local businesses that have a mission to help kids and families.

All Good Living (AGL) offers a collection of apparel that embraces the retro styles of Alameda, including T-shirts for Dad. The AGL store takes an eco-friendly approach, utilizing ethical labor practices, 100 percent organic cotton and low-impact dyes.  (Did you know? Owner Chris Tam founded All Good Living Foundation to help vulnerable children stay in school and to help families transition. Tam partners with local businesses to support ongoing charity drives and “Do Good Days.”)

Take advantage of Alameda Bicycle’s lowest prices of the year at the annual Father’s Day Sale, happening June 14 to 16. (Did you know? Alameda Bicycle sponsors an annual kids’ Books 4 Bikes program and gives away bikes and helmets to encourage reading for fun.)

Registration Open For Classic Car Show
It’s not too early to make plans to participate with Dad in the 26th Annual Downtown Alameda Classic Car Show, one of the largest car shows in the Bay Area. The popular event takes place on Saturday, Oct. 12, with 400 classic vehicles of every description lined up along Park Street: antique roadsters, vintage coupes, hot rods, muscle cars and other beauties that Dad used to drive. It’s fun for the entire family, whether viewing the cars or showing one off.

Registration for the classic car show is open now — the $35 registration fee includes a commemorative T-shirt, dash plaque and goodie bag. Admission to view the cars is free.
