Third Running Festival Approaches

The third annual Alameda Running Festival will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, with the races starting at Alameda Point.
Five different races will be run that day. The first race is a half-marathon (13.1 miles). It will begin at 7 a.m. and will showcase both sides of the Island.
The second race is the half-marathon relay. This race allows participants to team up in a group of two or four. If it is a team of two each runner must travel 6.5 miles, if it is a team of four each member runs 3.2 miles. This event also starts at 7 a.m. 
The 10K (6.2 miles) will begin at 7:15 a.m. This race invites runners, walkers and challenged athletes. 
The 5K (3.1 miles) will begin at 7:30 a.m. The last race is the Family Fun Run, which begins at 10:30 a.m. This event welcomes children and their parents. Participants will travel along West Mall Square, West Captain Dodge Place and Lexington Street.
The Alameda Running Festival benefits Alameda Meals on Wheels and Alameda Education Foundation. Tickets cost $75 if purchased by Friday, Sept. 14, or $80 the day of the event.
