Thieves Pilfer AMP Payments

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) reports that thieves helped hemselves to the contents of its two payment drop boxes at 2000 Grand St. over the weekend. According to AMP, the Alameda Police Department responded to a call on Sunday, Nov. 18, that a resident noticed that the drop boxes appeared to be open. APD determined that the boxes had been pried open.

AMP points out that this will affect customers who placed payments in the drop boxes from Friday, Nov. 16, after 3 p.m. to Monday, Nov. 19, at 8 a.m. AMP urges these customers contact their banks and inform them of the situation, closely monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity to the banks.

AMP has suspended use of these drop boxes and invites its customers to pay by check or Visa or MasterCard by calling 748-3900. This free, automated service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

They can also visit or pay in person at AMP’s offices, 2000 Grand St., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

AMP’s offices remain closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at noon and on both Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23.

The office will re-open Monday, Nov. 26, at 8:30 a.m.
