Take Part in ‘Porch of July’ 2021

In recent years the City of Alameda’s Fourth of July Parade has attracted more than 60,000 people for the nation’s birthday. The event has been canceled again this year. The city hopes to host the parade again in 2022.

Instead, Island City residents are invited to celebrate with neighbors, friends, and family in a series of activities that everyone can enjoy called “Porch of July.” This citywide decorating and live performance contest is open to all and takes place Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4.

Simply decorate your porch, yard, front window, or vehicle to win prizes! A map will be available at www.alamedaca.gov/recreation with all of the decorated locations. Residents who don’t wish to decorate, but still want to celebrate, are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and tour the decorated homes. Public viewing is encouraged between noon and 7 p.m. each day.

Categories include: most star-spangled spirit, postcards from Alameda, fun in the sun, boogie on the bay, and a people’s choice award. Enter by Friday, June 25, at www.alamedaca.gov/departments/recreation-parks/porch-of-july. Entries must be complete and operational on both July 3 and 4.
