Suspicious Fires Doused at Park

Alameda Fire Department    Firefighters arrived at Woodstock Park to find a play structure completely engulfed in flames.

Two suspicious fires brought Alameda Fire Department (AFD) to Woodstock Park, 351 Cypress St., in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 13. The first call at 1:51 a.m. involved a trash-can fire that firefighters quickly extinguished.

Less than two hours later AFD answered a second call to the park. The report of a structure fire brought 10 firefighters back to the park. They arrived to see flames destroying a popular play structure.  Firefighters were able to extinguish the second fire before it could spread to any nearby structures.

Investigators have not yet determined if someone intentionally started the two fires.
