Suspect Arrested in Connection with Attempted Murder
On March 21, just after 12 a.m., Alameda Police Department (APD) officers responded to the 2500 block of Central Avenue for the report of possible gunfire. After arriving at the scene, officers located a residence with several bullet holes. The home was occupied, but the residents were not injured.
With the assistance of the recently installed fixed Automated License Plate Readers, detectives were able to develop critical leads and determine the home that was likely targeted, according to APD.
On March 29, with the help of the United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, 41-year-old Darren Striplin, an Oakland resident, was arrested for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, stalking, criminal threats, and being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm. Striplin was arrested on the 10000 block of MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland.
Striplin was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. According to the Alameda County Inmate Locator database, Striplin is also charged with willfully threatening to commit a crime, oral copulation with a minor, being charged with a felony after being convicted of a one-strike felony and more. Striplin is being held without bond and does not have any upcoming court dates scheduled.
The case has since been sent to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for review, according to APD.
