Sullwold Leads After Two
Jane Sullwold slightly widened her lead after the second round of the President’s Cup last Thursday, June 19. Sullwold shot a net 71 giving her the best net score for the second round in a row. Sullwold competed in the third flight — handicap of 31 to 40 — with Kay Park who finished second overall for the day with a net 72. Park also finished second overall behind Sullwold in the first round with a net 68. Sullwold, with a two-round net 138, now commands a two-stroke lead over Park (net 140) heading into the final round. Pam Curtis finished third in the third flight on the day with a net 76. She now has an overall net 147.
Ruby Soo finished with a net 77 giving her a two-round net 158 for fourth place in the flight. Bernice Herzberg controls the first-flight leader board — handicap of seven to 21 — but it was Tai Chewpanich who put together the best round of the day among first-flight participants. Herzberg shot a net 75 in the second round. She now has a combined net 146 after two rounds of golf. She is also in third place overall in the tournament.
However, Chewpanich shot a net 74 in the second round for the best score of the day in the first flight, but she also shot a net 74 in the first round giving her a combined 148 net score, two strokes behind Herzberg. She is in second place in the flight after two rounds. Madeline Sally shot a net 77 in the second round to bring her overall score to net 152, good for third place in the flight. Barbara Mickle shot a net 74 in the second round to give her an overall net 147 and the lead in the second-flight — handicap of 22 to 30.
Mickle is also tied for fourth place in the overall tournament with Curtis. Bobbie Hoepner is in second place in the second flight with an overall net 148 after she shot a net 72 in the second round. Barbara Wood and Wilda Moore are tied for third place in the second flight with a combined net 150. Wood shot a net 72, while Moore shot a net 76 in the second round. Just seven of the 26 participants were able to improve their scores in the second round. The final round will be played today at the Chuck Corica Golf Complex.
