Step Into Local WWII History

Museum at Alameda Point a hidden Island treasure trove

Have you ever wondered about the three-story yellow building across from Alameda’s beautiful new park at Alameda Point? It was formerly an air terminal and was used by the Navy’s governmental and military personnel and their dependents. They could fly to naval air bases anywhere in the world from Alameda.

The Naval Air Museum has been housed in the former terminal for more than two decades, and features archival materials, photographs, exhibits, and interesting stories. The library is located on the third floor of the museum. Thousands of books on all aspects of military history are in the library space.

The main reading room is a serene and lovely area with comfortable chairs and ample room to walk around and browse. A perfect location for researchers of all ages.

Also on the third floor is a model train exhibit, absolutely a must-see for all visitors.

The Alameda Naval Air Museum (ANAM) is a registered non-profit organization staffed entirely by volunteers. There are numerous positions available. By joining the museum, you will help ANAM continue its mission of preserving history for future generations. ANAM is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free and handicapped accessible.

ANAM is located at 2151 Ferry Point #77. For more information, visit www.AlamedaNavalAirMuseum.org and ANAM Board President Larry Pirack at 510-612-8955.
