The three-day celebration downtown, Alameda’s Spring Festival Weekend, starts Friday with Rhythmix Cultural Works’ Love Our Island Art Walk, Radical Beauty, Part 8. The celebration of art and music takes place along Park Street and at Rhythmix, 2513 Blanding Ave., from 6 to 9 p.m. this Friday, May 10.
The Alameda High School (AHS) softball team defeated the Encinal High School (EHS) team, 13-7, in a high scoring match Monday, April 29, at Lower Washington Park.
The Jets got the scoring started with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Hornets quickly responded with two runs in the top of the second and six more in the third inning. The Jets made a rally with a three-run fourth inning to close the deficit to 8-7, but the Hornets thwarted the Jets’ comeback attempt with a five-run sixth inning to put the contest out of reach.
Alameda High School (AHS) graduate Keelan Doss signed with the hometown Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent Saturday, April 27.
Doss, who graduated from Alameda High in 2014, was expected to be picked by many football pundits in the middle rounds of the National Football League (NFL) draft, which took place April 25 to 27. However, the UC Davis graduate was not one of the 254 players selected in the seven-round draft.
Bobbie Hoepner and Vivian Kang both shot net 64s to tie for the winner of the Alameda Women’s Golf Club net tournament Thursday, April 18, on the Jack Clark Course.
Hoepner and Kang both competed in the fifth flight among golfers with a handicap of 38 to 40. Siv Richards posted a net 74 in the flight for third place. Lynette Mladinich shot a net 74 for fourth place, while Pam Curtis shot a net 75 for fifth place.
Eight St. Joseph Notre Dame student-athletes made their college choices final at a signing day ceremony on the school’s campus Wednesday, April 17.
Family, friends and school employees gathered at the school’s auditorium to celebrate the college choices of Marcus Abendanio, Caroline Bridges, Jason De Ocampo, Hudson Hennigh, Emily Perez, Richard Reid, Andrea Rodgers and Julian Vaughns.
