In an effort to raise funds for scholastic sports at Alameda High School (AHS), the Alameda High Athletic Boosters are holding the fourth annual Hornet Sting Social and Poker Night Saturday, April 12.

The party will take place at Rock Wall Wine Company (2301 Monarch St.) on Alameda Point and will feature live music, a silent auction, raffle and other activities.

Also included are complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a no-host wine tasting, beer and of course, the poker tournament.

The Alameda Powerlifting Team posted some positive results at the Pacific Coast Open Powerlifting Championship on Feb. 8 in Vacaville.

Bettina Lutman, who won the two divisions she entered, led the team. She entered the women’s submaster and open divisions in the raw bench press 165-pound class. Lutman completed all four of her lifts, two in each division. Lutman, 38, won both divisions with a winning lift of 137-and-a-half pounds. This was Lutman’s first meet.

The carefree summer days when you’d put on your team T-shirt and meet your pals in the park to play baseball are back. The Alameda T-Shirt League invites the public to its "First Pitch Benefit Party" on Thursday, March 20, at the Alameda Theater and Cineplex, 2311 Central Ave. VIP seating starts at 6 p.m.; doors open for general admission at 7 p.m.

Stephanie Bellato won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club’s March Charm by shooting a net 70 Thursday, March 6, on the Jack Clark Course.

Bellato played in the first flight among golfers with a handicap of 11 to 24. Barbara Mickle shot a net 72 for second place while Debbie Adams shot a net 75 for third place. Cheryl Saxton came in fourth place in the flight with a net 76. Nine golfers in all competed in the flight.

Eight members of the Alameda Island Aquatics swim team were chosen to represent Pacific Swimming’s Zone 2 at the 2014 All-Star Developmental Meet, held last Sunday, March 2, at Burlingame High.
