The Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) held its guest day event last Thursday, July 24. The event invites non-AWGC members to team with AWGC golfers to comprise teams of four. Those teams battle for the top spot in their respective flight group.
Each of the team members play each hole with the two best scores counting against the team’s overall score and the other two scores being discarded.
The College of Alameda baseball park was flooded with over 100,000 gallons of water over the weekend after vandals opened the main water valve and destroyed six sprinkler heads last weekend.
The vandalism took place some time between 9 p.m. Saturday, July 26, and 7 a.m. Sunday, July 27, on the eve of three important Alameda Babe Ruth baseball league games, according to the Alameda Babe Ruth senior league general manager Eric Schuler. The three games had to be cancelled.

About ten kids from Alameda were able to take part in the "Defend the Rim" basketball clinic last Saturday, July 12, at the Parrot Village apartments on the 1800 block of Wood Street.
The clinic was taught by Alameda native and longtime basketball coach Sherman Lee. Lee has been involved in coaching all sports in Alameda for more than 30 years now. He has organized dozens of youth basketball clinics including ones at Alameda and Encinal High.
