Kay Park posted a net 70 to win the third Alameda Women’s Golf Club event of the month on the Earl Fry Course last Thursday, Feb. 19.

The event was played net-style, meaning the lowest net score wins the event. Park played in the third flight with golfers who have a 29 to 34 handicap. Park shot a net 70 to win the flight and the overall tournament. Denise Grati came in second in the flight and the overall tournament by posting a net 71. Bonnie Kim and Sonia Kwak shot matching net 76s to tie for third place.

Several Alameda high schools were notified of their seedings in the North Coast Section (NCS) basketball playoffs last Sunday, Feb. 22. The tournaments began this week.

The Encinal men’s basketball team sports an 18-11 overall record throughout the year so far. They were given the sixth seed — out of 14 teams — in the NCS Division III playoffs after winning their league title. The Jets took down San Lorenzo 74-68 in the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) Championship last Saturday, Feb. 21. 

Alameda native James Hahn won his first Pro Golf Association (PGA) tournament event by taking down some of the biggest names in golf on his way to win the Northern Trust Open last weekend. 

Hahn, 33, needed a three-hole playoff to win the event played at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Hahn shot a six-under 278 through the four rounds of the tournament along with PGA standouts Dustin Johnson and Paul Casey.

The Alameda Recreation and Parks Department park monitors patrol Alameda’s parks on weekends to ensure facilities are clean, greet park users, provide information and assistance and enforce park rules. They also ensure picnic and field reservations are in place.

Bae won the tournament by posting a net 64 in the first flight — handicap of nine to 23. Bae also shot the lowest gross of the event with an overall 77.
