Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School (SJND) women’s teams crushed the fall athletics season across a range of sports. SJND women’s golf, volleyball and cross-country all enjoyed strong Tri-County Athletic League (TCAL) season including several league titles.
The Alameda High School women’s water polo team won three straight matches last weekend, Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, to bring home the West Alameda County Conference (WACC) championship.
The Lady Hornets took down Hercules 26-4 in the quarterfinal on Oct. 30 and then defeated Bishop O’ Dowd of Oakland 14-5 in the semifinal on Halloween. The quarterfinal and semifinal were played at Contra Costa College in San Pablo.
Last year former Berkley High school track star Ralph Walker started a youth track club in Alameda. He named the club the Don Grant Alameda Point Youth Track Club for the late Encinal High School track and field coach Don Grant.
The Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) held a Halloween Guest Day event last Thursday, Oct. 30 that allowed female golfers throughout Alameda to participate in the haunting event.
In the guest-day format, each team is comprised of four golfers. Each of the four golfers play each hole, with the two best scores on the hole counting toward the overall score, while the other two scores are discarded.
