The Alameda Women’s Nine Hole Golf Club, aka the Niners, held its holiday party at Speisekammer on Dec. 8. Members collected donated food for the Alameda Food Bank.
The club installed Katie Leong as its 2015 president; Carol Towata as vice president; Janis Peterson as secretary and Georgia Turner as treasurer.
The club appointed Di Huntley to oversee tournament scoring for 2015 and put Pam Curtis in charge of special tournaments. Juanita Solano will run scheduling next year and Lynette Mladinich will keep track of handicaps.
Alameda High School (AHS) senior Bret Greene finished the race in 17:47 making him the fastest overall to finish. AHS sophomore Lara Vetter was the fastest female to finish, completing the course in 20:56.
Two Alameda High students were the first male and female runners to finish the Midway Shelter Run and Walk 2014 on Dec. 6 in Alameda.
Champion team beaten by point total, not overall time
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) men’s cross-country team lost out on a chance to three-peat as California Interscholastic Federation Division V cross-country champions by the slimmest of margins. The race took place last Saturday, Nov. 29, at Woodward Park in Fresno.
For a fourth straight year the St. Joseph Notre Dame men’s cross-country team won the North Coast Section (NCS) Division V cross-country championship last Saturday, Nov. 22, at the 3-mile Hayward High course.
