Alameda youngsters from kindergarten to third grade are invited to take part in Alameda Recreation and Park Department’s (ARPD) Junior Warriors Basketball Clinic this winter at the Alameda Point Gym.
The program will take place at the gym, 1101 West Redline Ave., every Saturday morning from Jan. 18 through March 1, except Feb. 15.
This exciting and innovative program has been specifically designed to offer youngsters an opportunity to participate in an organized program of balanced competition. The program philosophy will stress a positive attitude, teamwork, good sportsmanship and self-confidence.
Cost is $90 for kindergarten and first graders and $130 for second and third graders. Fee includes Junior Warriors jersey, headband and certificate of participation.

Hoops Shoots Finals Results
The 40th Annual Elks Hoop Shoots city finals was held Friday, Jan. 10 at the Alameda Point Gym, 1101 West Red Line Ave.
The contest pits boys and girls, ages eight to 13, in a free throw contest. Each contestant shoots 25 free throws and the three contestants with the most made free throws in each gender-and-age bracket advances to the Bay District Hoop Shoots contest.
Jacob Baca came in first place in the boys, ages eight to nine-years- old division. He along with Carl Hollins (second place) and Diego Amador (third place) will advance to the next round.
Samantha Wheeler won the girls, ages eight to nine-years-old division. She, along with Georgia Rodriques (second place) and Kayla Billeter (third place) will move on to the next round.
Elijah Caliz (first place), Justin Walker (second place) and Jacob Price (third place) will advance in the boys, ages 10 to 11-years-old bracket. Sierra Gutierrez (first place), Katie Ohno (second place) and Sara Motley (third place) were the top three participants in the girls, ages 10 to 11-years-old division.
Ameer Omar (first place), Jake Emnerson (second place) and Dean Sarmiento (third place) have advanced to the next round in the boys, ages 12 to 13-years-old division. Sabrina Motley and Marina Donovan advanced in the girls, ages 12 to13-years old division.
The Hoop Shoots Bay District finals will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at Serra High School in San Mateo.
The city finals was conducted by the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department and the Alameda Elks Lodge #1015.
St. Joe’s Soccer Results
Saint Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) got a huge 1-0 road victory last Saturday against St. Patrick/ St. Vincent in Vallejo.
The win was important for the Pilots because it stopped a seven-game winless streak for the team. The Pilots went 0-6-1 during the stretch. SJND’s last win was a 4-2 victory over Red Bluff on Dec. 6 in the Foothill Tournament.
SJND junior forward Michael Monica scored the game’s only goal in the 11th minute. The Pilots defense stifled the Bruins the whole game. The Bruins only attempted three shots on goal in the entire contest. All three shots were stopped by senior goalie Erik Costello.
On the other hand, the Pilots were aggressive on offense constantly putting the Bruins’ defense on its heels. The Pilots mustered up 13 shots on goal with the one by Monica squeaking by the Bruins’ goalie for the goal.
The Pilots are now 4-6-1 as of Tuesday, Jan. 14 on the season. They played Richmond on Tuesday and face Albany on the road today.
