Soccer Season Hits Final Week

 

The high school soccer season is entering its final week of the regular season as several Alameda high school squads gear up for the post season.

Women’s Soccer
The St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) women’s soccer team holds a 7-3-2 overall record with a 3-3-2 record in the Bay Counties East League. The Pilots defeated city rivals Encinal High School (EHS), 3-0 on Nov. 27; and Alameda High School (AHS), 1-0 on Jan. 7. The Pilots defeated Redwood Christian, 4-0, in its last contest on Jan. 25. Seniors Nicole Prislin and Araceli Zavala-Sheridan, sophomore Danielle Perez and junior Cassandra Deleon each scored a goal in the match. The Pilots scored all four goals before the end of the first half. 

The Pilots will close the regular season with a match against Urban High School of San Francisco tomorrow.

The AHS women’s soccer team is 8-5-1 overall and 7-3 in the West Alameda County Conference Shoreline League. The Hornets have won three of its last four matches including a 9-0 win over Tennyson High School (THS) of Hayward on Jan. 21, a 2-0 victory over San Lorenzo High School on Jan. 24 and a 3-0 win over Richmond High School on Jan. 26. 

The Hornets are second in the Shoreline League, just a half-a-game behind Arroyo High School of San Lorenzo. The Hornets will play rival EHS today at home and then close the regular season with a match against league leader Arroyo on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The EHS women’s soccer team is 3-9-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Shoreline League. The Jets have struggled this season, but they defeated Mt. Eden High School of Hayward, 1-0, in its last contest on Jan. 24. They also have the opportunity to redeem this season by defeating rival AHS today. 

They will close the regular season with a match against San Leandro High on Feb. 5.

Men’s Soccer
The AHS men’s soccer team is 8-4-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the Shoreline League. The Hornets went 3-0-1 in its last four games before they lost to Berkeley High School, 3-0, on Jan. 25. The loss dropped the Hornets to third place in the Shoreline League behind 6-0 Piedmont High School (PHS) and 5-2-1 San Leandro High. The Hornets lost to PHS, 1-0, on Dec. 7. AHS will end the regular season with a match against EHS on Feb. 5 and San Lorenzo High on Feb. 7.

The EHS men’s soccer team is 2-12 overall and 2-7 in the Shoreline League. The Jets’ two victories were over league rivals. They defeated THS, 3-2, on Dec. 6 and Castro Valley High School, 2-1, on Jan. 25. 

The Jets will take on San Lorenzo High today and AHS on Feb. 5 to close out the regular season.

The SJND men’s soccer team competed during the fall season. They went 6-7-1 overall.
