With winter break over, Alameda athletes are also back to their respective sports teams. Though there has been rainy weather as of late it has not stopped Alameda soccer teams from competing on the pitch.

All Alameda soccer teams have gotten off to slow starts, but they will look to turn things around in the second half of the season.

Men
The Alameda High men’s soccer team is 2-7-1 on the season. The Hornets won their season opener against Pinole Valley 3-1 on Dec. 2. Alameda’s two second-half goals put the game away. However, after the win Alameda lost four of their next five matches with the other being a 1-1 tie to Mt. Eden of Hayward on Dec. 7. The Hornets beat Arroyo of San Lorenzo 3-2 on Dec. 16 to break the streak, but they have lost their last three games. They will try to rebound against Hayward tomorrow.

The Encinal High men’s team has had even worse luck on the pitch this season. The team is 0-6 overall. The team opened the season with a 3-0 defeat to Mt. Eden on Dec. 5. The Jets have only managed to score one goal all season in a 5-1 loss to San Leandro on Dec. 12. The team has been on break since Dec. 21, and now have the opportunity to turn things around. The Jets will get their next chance against Piedmont tomorrow on Stargell Field.

The St. Joseph Notre Dame men’s soccer team played in the fall season. They went 3-5-3. After a 1-0 loss to Head-Royce on Sept. 7, the team reeled off two straight victories over Redwood Christian of San Lorenzo (4-1) on Sept. 12, and Bentley of Lafayette (3-1) on Sept. 15. But the team finished the season winning just one of its next eight games.

Women
The Alameda women’s soccer team holds a 2-5-2 record in the first half of the soccer season. The team got off to a slow start. The Hornets tied in the season opener 1-1 with El Cerrito on Nov. 29. They began the season winless in the first six games with a 0-4-2 record, including a 3-0 loss to St. Joseph Notre Dame on Dec. 1. However, the Hornets have made strides in its last few games. Alameda has won two of their last three matches with victories over Arroyo of San Lorenzo (1-0) on Dec. 22, and Livermore (8-0) on Jan 8. The team will battle Hayward in its next game.

The Encinal women’s team has gotten off to a modest start. They currently have a 2-2-1 record this season. The Jets suffered a 3-0 loss to Drake of San Anselmo in the season opener on Nov. 30. They tied Mt. Eden 0-0 in their next contest on Dec. 5, then reeled off two straight victories over Hercules (8-1) on Dec. 8 and Arroyo (2-1) on Dec. 14. The Jets lost to Ygnacio Valley of Concord 1-0 on Dec. 21. The Jets are now back from break and are taking on San Leandro today.  

The SJND soccer team is 1-3 on the season. The team lost its home opener to Moreau Catholic of Hayward 2-0 on Nov. 28. They followed that with a big 3-0 victory over Alameda on Dec. 1. Pilot freshman Ellie Chareonsuphiphat scored two goals in the match. The Pilots however, lost two straight against University High of San Francisco (3-0) on Dec. 6, and Lick-Wilmerding of San Francisco (2-0) on Dec. 8. The team is back from break and looks to get on track against Head-Royce tomorrow.
