Sign Threatens Fee at Tube
Recently commuters entering the Posey Tube have been warned about fines associated with crossing the gore point illegally there. A sign announced the citation will result in a fine of $238. The term “gore point” refers to the triangular markings on a road that usually extend a traffic island and designate an area that is not open for motorists to drive across.
When complaints appeared on social media about drivers cutting across the point in order to get ahead in the traffic line, the Alameda Police Department’s Traffic Division drew attention away from school safety enforcement for a few days in an attempt to address the problem. According to police, the sign has had the desired effect, discouraging people from bending traffic laws to cut down on their commute times.
