Shelter Gets New Roof
The Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) announced recently that the shelter is getting a new roof. The organization will keep the doors of the shelter open to potential adopters and pets in need during the installation, which begins Monday, Nov. 28, and is expected to take about four weeks. It will be noisy and parking will be reduced, but a new water-tight roof is essential to keep the animals warm and dry this winter.
The roof installation noise will be upsetting to the shelter’s animals, especially the dogs. FAAS would like to spare them as much of the nerve-wracking experience as possible. FAAS is seeking temporary foster homes for animals, for less than one week (from Sunday night to Friday afternoon) or longer.Contact FAAS animal behaviorist Ariana Keedy at akeedy@alameda animalshelter.org if interested.
During the holiday season, FAAS will close the shelter on certain days. It is closed today, Nov. 24, and tomorrow, Nov. 25, for Thanksgiving. The shelter reopens Saturday, Nov. 26.
The shelter will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve, Saturday, Dec. 24, but will close again for Christmas Day, Sunday, Dec. 25. The shelter will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Saturday, Dec. 31, but will close for New Year’s Day, on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017.
